Billie Jo Pringle Johnson, long-time Board Member of the William A. Lawson Institute for Peace and Prosperity and The Lawson Academy School Board went home to be with God on Friday, September 15, 2017. To her students, she will always be Mrs. Johnson. To her friends, she is Billie Jo.
Billie Jo was the WALIPP Board Secretary and she rarely missed meetings, even attending by phone when sick or traveling. Her impact on our organization cannot be overstated. As a professional educator, she lent her knowledge and her wisdom to The Lawson Academy. More than just a vote, Billie Jo was exquisitely thoughtful and delivered careful and meaningful input to every conversation.
Billie Jo was a part of the Houston Independent School District for fifty (50) years and ended her career there as the quintessential School Principal at Thompson Elementary School. When she left HISD, she went to the Christian Academy at her church and gave leadership there. She was the first female deacon ordained at the young Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church. Her commitment to mission work and Christian service were unmatched.
Her body will lie in state on Friday, October 6, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home located at 5730 Calhoun Road, Houston, TX 77021.
A Wake Service takes place on Friday, October 6, 2017 from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church at 3826 Wheeler Avenue, Houston, Texas 77004.
The Homegoing service to celebrate her life here in Houston will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at 11:00 a.m.at the Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church. A repast will follow the ceremony in the church’s Fellowship Hall.
Billie Jo had no children to survive her. She was the ‘grand mother’ for a young man, Devon, and his father who survive her. WALIPP will make a contribution of flowers for the ceremony and members of the WALIPP Board of Directors (current and past) are invited to attend one or both of these special services. Billie Jo’s family in Tyler, Texas will also celebrate her life with a second funeral on Monday, October 8, 2017.
She will be greatly missed!
